Sheikh Razzak Ali
There's so much I can write about Nanubhai, my grandfather, Mr. Sheikh Razzak Ali. Since this is a memorial of sorts that aims to highlight both his personal and highly prolific professional life, I'm including both here.
He achieved so much by hard work, with good luck and the grace of the Almighty being on his side, that some of us only dream of achieving in a lifetime. Fighting various obstacles, be it financial limitations, the Partition of Bengal in 1947, the Liberation war of 1971, professional rivalries, ill health, accidents or just unfortunate circumstances, Sheikh Razzak Ali established himself in every career he took up in life. His name and contributions have made historical impacts in today's Bangladeshi politics and parliamentary law. As a journalist, he was ahead of his time and has influenced countless lives imparting his knowledge and with his charity works. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheikh_Razzak_Ali)
Sheikh Razzak Ali was a family man to the core. He loved spending time with everyone close to him. Nanubhai, as all of us, his six grandchildren call him was a teddy bear of a person- warm, funny, witty, loving, caring, sensitive. I have yet to find a human being so genuine, honest and who was always looking for the good in people.
Despite having a number of illnesses, surgeries and heart attacks over the years, his cancer diagnosis in mid-2012 was an understandable setback in all our lives. Meanwhile, Nanubhai went through surgery and radiotherapy. His willpower and mental strength amidst all this and right until the very end doesn't cease to amaze us even now.
With his passing in 2015, not just his family but the nation and moreover, the world has lost a wise man with kind smiling eyes and most importantly, a wonderful human being.
